YEREVAN, April 14. /ARKA/. Armenia hopes that in the future its neighbors will take steps to restore or build an atmosphere of trust across the region, Armenian Foreign Minister Ara Ayvazyan said today in the parliament in response to an MP’s question about the “platform of six” proposed earlier by Turkey.
Ayvazyan said that Armenia has always been a supporter of regional cooperation, which would stimulate an atmosphere of trust and lead to stability and security across the region.
“It is not our fault that these platforms and cooperation in the region did not take place. Today, unfortunately, there is a great lack of trust. We hope that in the future the neighboring countries will take steps to restore or form an atmosphere of trust,” he said.
On December 10, 2020, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said there was a chance to open a “new page” in relations between Ankara and Yerevan, if Armenia took part in the “platform of six” for the development of cooperation in the Caucasus.
The platform, he said, may include Turkey, Azerbaijan, Russia, Iran, Georgia and also Armenia. Georgia rejected this proposal due to Russia’s presence in the platform, offering instead the Armenia-Georgia-Azerbaijan cooperation platform.
