YEREVAN, March 17. /ARKA/. The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) of Armenia reported Monday that it has ceased all preparations for constitutional referendum and all referendum campaigns because of coronavirus.
According to the CEC, this was decided on the basis of the Armenian government’s decision dated from March 16, 2020 on declaration a state of emergency in Armenia, as well as on the basis of appropriate articles of the Constitution of Armenia and the law on referendum.
The government of Armenia declared yesterday a 30-day state of emergency to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
The first case was confirmed on March 1. Among those infected with a new type of coronavirus are the citizens of Armenia who arrived from Iran and Italy, the people who came into contact with them, and also the citizen of Italy.
In total, 52 cases of COVID-19 are currently registered in Armenia.
