YEREVAN, September 18. /ARКА/. One of the important indicators of the intensity of the spread of coronavirus infection – the reproductive rate (Rt COVID19) – has now grown in Armenia to 1.02, Deputy Minister of Health Lena Nanushyan said today.
“If this indicator is more than 1, a rapid spread of the virus is predicted: each infected person will infect more than one person. A few days ago, it was less than one and indicated a decrease in cases,” she wrote in a Facebook post.
According to Nanushyan, it is necessary to continue to comply with all the rules: wear masks, often wash or disinfect hands, observe social distance.
“Otherwise, we will have a sharp increase in cases, which, of course, will be facilitated by the increased mobility of the population due to the reopening of educational institutions and traffic jams,” she stressed.
She noted the need to unite efforts in countering the pandemic, and also expressed regret that some people, based on various personal motives, are spreading misinformation about the preventive measures in the fight against COVID-19, in particular, about wearing of masks.
“There is nothing more expensive than health. Save it with simple means – masks. I hope that soon medicine will make it possible to have more effective remedies. But until then, wear masks and preserve your life and the life of your loved ones, ”added Nanushyan.
On September 11 the Armenian government decided to replace the state of emergency, declared on March 16 to stop the spread of coronavirus, with nationwide quarantine regime that will be in force until January 11, 2021.
Restrictions on free movement and some types of economic activity introduced on March 24 were removed on May 4. Public transport, gyms, kindergartens and catering facilities were allowed to resume on May 18 and on August 12, Armenia allowed the entry of foreigners and holding of meetings and rallies, but wearing masks and observing social distance remain mandatory.
