YEREVAN, May 20. /ARKA/. An opposition alliance called ‘Pativ Unem’ (I Have the Honor) comprising former President Serzh Sargsyan’s Republican Party of Armenia (HAK) and the Homeland party, led by former National Security Service (NSS) Director Artur Vanetsyan, who officially joined forces to participate in Armenia’s parliamentary elections scheduled for June 20, demanded today that the government publish a document that reportedly calls for setting up a trilateral commission (Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia) to deal with demarcation of Armenian-Azerbaijani border and which Acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan is going to sign.
The document was earlier circulated in social networks by Mikael Minasyan, a former ambassador and the son-in-law of Serzh Sargsyan. According to Minasyan, this document provides, in particular, for handover of 6 Armenian villages (5 in Tavush and 1 in Ararat regions) to Azerbaijan.
The Pativ Unem alliance said in a statement that the incursion of Azerbaijani troops into the territory of Armenia, their deployment and new demands made to Armenia by Azerbaijan, as well as Pashinyan’s announcement that he would sign the document are deeply troubling.
The alliance said that after the ceasefire agreement in Artsakh last fall, the Armenian authorities ceded territories to Azerbaijan that did not stem from the statement dated November 9, 2020. The alliance stressed that the authorities hid these concessions from the citizens for a long time and accepted only after some of their details emerged.
“This circumstance shows that there is no guarantee that during the current negotiations, especially the draft plan on the agenda, correspond to the vital interests of Armenia, Artsakh and the Armenian people,” the statement said.
In this regard, the alliance demands that all shadow negotiations and deals involving Armenia and Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) be stopped immediately and the document in question be published with all attachments without delay.
The alliance called on all political and public forces, the citizens concerned about the situation in the country, to gather today at 19:00 in front of the government building to demand that the document be unveiled.
It said in case the government fails to do so, the alliance reserves the right to use all available means to fight against the “treacherous policy” of the government. -0-
