YEREVAN, April 4. /ARKA/. The Armenian parliament will release 500 million drams (about $990 thousand) from its budget to help stop the spread of coronavirus, National Assembly Speaker Ararat Mirzoyan said in a Facebook post.
“The National Assembly will release 500 million drams from its annual budget to support the efforts to prevent, control and treat coronavirus,” he wrote.
Mirzoyan said part of 500 million drams had been earmarked to finance various contracts for the whole year, which have not yet been signed. The other part is the money that was allocated but not spent on business trips in the first quarter, and the money envisaged for business trips in the second quarter and also the money set aside as bonuses for 700 employees and deputies of the National Assembly.
The government of Armenia introduced a 30-day state of emergency on March 16 in a bid to contain the spread of coronavirus. Later, it imposed restrictions on free movement of people and banned certain types of economic activity until April 12 inclusive.
As of April 3, some 736 confirmed cases of coronavirus were recorded in the country, 43 patients recovered and seven died. ($1 – 504.5 drams). –0–
