YEREVAN, August 13. /ARKA/. Major General Zhirayr Poghosyan was dismissed by President Armen Sarkissian as commander of the First Army Corps of the Armenian Armed Forces.
Zhirayr Poghosyan held this position since June 2018. He was among those top army brass who had signed a statement of the General Staff in February 2021, demanding the resignation of the government and Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
Earlier, another signatory of the statement – the commander of the Third Army Corps, Major General Grigory Khachaturov – was relieved of his post. He was replaced by Aleksander Tsakanyan.
