YEREVAN, February 24. /ARKA/. The damage caused by economic crimes disclosed by Armenian prosecutors in 2020 amounted to 20 billion drams, the Office of the Prosecutor General said today. It added that 2.5 billion dram worth damages has been recovered.
It said also that in 2020 the number of reported economic crimes decreased. Prosecutors initiated 844 criminal cases into economic crimes, which was 10% less than in 2019, when 931 such cases had been initiated
In 2020, some 1,045 criminal cases involving economic crimes were pending, 155 cases less than in 2019. Twenty-one persons were convicted by courts in economic crime, including 8 imprisonments.
“The analysis shows that in many cases economic crimes were committed according to identical schemes. In this regard, the need to consider the possible involvement of relevant officials in such cases was emphasized,” the Office of Prosecutor General said.
To restore the damage caused to the state, property, real estate and accounts of the accused for a total of 13.5 billion drams were subjected to seizure, it said . ($1 – 526.45 drams).
