Elina Danielian, an Armenian chess grandmaster and six-time Armenia’s women’s champion is sharing the 2-4 places in the standings two rounds before the end of the European Women Individual Chess Championship 2021 that is taking place from 8th-21st of August in Iasi, Romania,
In the 9th round on August 18 Danielian drew with black against the sole leader of the championship, Ukrainian Yulia Osmak, who has gained 7.5 points. Bela Khotenashvili (Georgia) and Natalia Buksa (Ukraine), along with Danielian, are half a point behind.
Other Armenian players Maria Gevorkyan and Mariam Mkrtchyan won their games in the 9th round, Anna Sargsyan, Susanna Gaboyan and Siranush Ghukasyan played a draw, while Lilit Mkrtchyan lost.
The event is being played in 11 rounds, Swiss system, with time control 90 minutes for 40 moves plus 30 minutes for the rest of the game with an increment of 30 seconds per move, starting from /move one. The prize fund is 60 thousand euros.
The 21st European Individual Women Chess Championship is a qualification event for the FIDE Women’s World Cup 2022 or 2023.
According to the FIDE regulations and the ECU Board decision, at least 10 players will qualify. –
