YEREVAN, January 29. /ARKA/. The average gross wage in Armenia in 2020 grew by 3.9% from the previous year, according to the National Statistical Committee (NSC).
The NSC noted that when calculating the average monthly gross wage, starting from April it took into account that many business entities had to lay off their employees temporarily because COVID-19 crisis and did not pay them wages.
The average gross wage in 2020 amounted to 189,758 drams. At the same time, in December 2020, compared to November 2020, it increased by 24.3%, and by 1.7% in December 2020 compared to December 2019.
The average wage in the public sector increased more than in the private sector, although it could not overtake it in absolute terms.
So in January-December 2020, compared to the same period in 2019, the average gross wage in the public sector increased by 5.3% to 170,265 drams. In December 2020 compared to November 2020, it increased by 40.7%, and by 1.1% in December 2020 when compared to December 2019.
In the private sector, in 2020, compared to 2019, the average gross wage increased by 3% to 199,031 drams. At the same time, in December 2020 compared to November 2020, it was up by 17.9%, and in December 2020 compared to December 2019 by 2%. ($1 – 518.16 drams).
