Baku/06.05.19/Turan: A citizen of Russia of Armenian origin Marat Ueldanov (Galustyan) was brought from Baku to Russia, “Sputnik-Armenia” reported with reference to Ueldanov”s sister.
Ueldanov was arrested in Baku in July 2016 on charges under Article 234.4.3 of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan (drug trafficking) and was subsequently sentenced to eight years in prison.
After his arrest, the Armenian press and the Russian pro-Armenian media, referring to Ueldanov”s sister Marianna Mirzoyan, began to spread information that M.Ueldanov was arrested because he was Armenian.
In January of this year, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov expressed a hope that because of negotiations with Azerbaijan, Marat Ueldanov-Galustyan would be returned to Russia.
Ueldanov, a native of Baku, has visited Azerbaijan more than once, being an employee of an Austrian company serving the 2015 European Games.
