Chrissy Teigen‘s 2019 began with a bang on live TV.
To clarify, it was a bang right into Leslie Jones‘ umbrella onstage during NBC’s live New Year’s Eve celebration in Times Square as Teigen moved in for an unsuccessful New Year’s hug.
Quick set-up: The ball had dropped to signify 2019 was here, the band was playing “Auld Lang Syne,” co-host Carson Daly was taking a sip of champagne and Teigen went in for a hug with fellow host Jones.
It did not go well. The umbrella knocked right into Teigen’s face.
The move came after Jones had auditioned Times Square revelers to see who was the best midnight kisser, having them demonstrate on a mannequin. No injuries.
All was OK with Teigen after the hug fail. She doggedly resumed her embrace with Jones. The second attempt was successful.
And Teigen was seen laughing it up with Daly onstage. She signaled on Twitter that she was fine, tweeting, “I’m okay!”
Jones took to Twitter to apologize to Teigen, adding “that’s why I hate umbrellas” through hashtag: “Ugh I can’t believe I hit @chrissyteigen in face!! Lordt!! I love you boo!! So sorry!!”
Despite the spectacle, Teigen reassured Twitter and Jones that, “EYE’M FINE BABY I hug too hard what can I say.” In another tweet, the model playfully revealed that she was “heading back out to time’s square to find my eyeball.”
Hopefully, the rest of 2019 goes much better for her.
