She’s back (and sweaty) on social media.
Demi Lovato has long been vocal about her jiujitsu fitness regimen and this week she posted a rare selfie that once again celebrates her love of the sport. “Sweaty, messy jiu jitsu hair..” she captioned the photo, and the hashtags revealed she’s a blue belt — the second of seven levels.
Lovato hasn’t posted to Instagram since voting in the midterms on November 6, so her fans (aka the Lovatics) are especially excited to see their queen back on social media and on the martial arts mat. The selfie has gotten over 4.3 million likes — a pretty astonishing number for what boils down to a gym selfie.
The enthusiasm may come in part from her hashtag “#nevergiveup,” a reminder that the star has recently been through rehab. No matter what the reason, fans are coming out in droves to support Lovato.
Comments range from “mama is back” to “You’re flawless without makeup” to “I missed you so much, and no matter what happens I will always love you.”
In August 2017, Lovato spoke to SELF about how she got started in the martial arts. “I first got into jiujitsu because I loved watching people grapple,” she explained. “I think it’s really cool to learn something that helps you with self-defense.” During that same interview, the singer said she picked up mixed martial arts because it “keeps [exercise] exciting.” And apparently it brings out the likes.
