STEPANAKERT, DECEMBER 12, ARMENPRESS. The Lachin Corridor – the interstate highway linking Artsakh with Armenia, is still fully closed, the Artsakh police said.
“By grossly violating the norms under international humanitarian conventions, the Azerbaijani side is once again violating the fundamental rights and freedoms of the Armenians of Artsakh. At this moment, hundreds of citizens are stranded on the road in the Lisagor-Shushi and Stepanakert-Shushi road which is closed since 10:30 in the morning under environmental pretexts,” Artsakh police said.
A group of Azerbaijanis describing themselves as “environmentalists” again blocked the Lachin Corridor in the morning of December 12.
The Lachin Corridor is the only road connecting Artsakh (Nagorno Karabakh) with Armenia.
A similar incident took place earlier on December 3. Then, the authorities of Artsakh said that the self-described Azeri environmentalists were actually secret service operatives seeking to make provocations. Moreover, Artsakh authorities even said they are ready for an international monitoring organization to assess and affirm that the mining operations meet all safety requirements.
