Palestinians and Israelis attacked Israeli security forces south of Mount Hebron on Friday morning. An off-duty IDF soldier was arrested on suspicion of throwing stones.
Defense Minister Benny Gantz made a statement on Twitter saying, “I strongly condemn the throwing of stones at the IDF by Israeli citizens together with Palestinian residents. This is a serious incident which will be dealt with in the most thorough manner. We will not allow anyone to harm IDF soldiers who are carrying out their duties for Israel’s security.”
Maj.-Gen Kohavi’s statements
IDF Chief of Staff, Maj.-Gen. Aviv Kohavi, strongly condemned the attack, according to the IDF Spokesperson’s unit. He considers the incident to be indicative of serious, violent criminal behavior.
The IDF Spokesperson’s unit quoted Kohavi, saying “This is a very serious incident. This is shameful and disgraceful criminal behavior, which requires swift and strict justice. IDF soldiers act resolutely against terrorism to protect the citizens of the State of Israel and it is not possible for those citizens to attack them violently.”
Israeli security forces are still investigating the incident.
