Israeli warplanes bombed a residential building containing the office of Turkish charity group Yardımeli on Thursday, the organisation said.
The building has been completely destroyed, Yardımeli said in a statement on Twitter. Israel carried out a similar attack in 2019, it said.
Turkish charities and NGOs, backed by the government, are active in Gaza and East Jerusalem. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is a staunch supporter of Hamas and is highly critical of Israel’s treatment of the Palestinians, labelling its actions as those of a “terrorist state”.
“This attack will not deter us – we will continue to bring kindness and brotherhood to Gaza,” the charity said.
Yardımeli has lost all data and information related to its work, said Hani al-Agha, the director of the organisation, according to Turkey’s state-run Anadolu news agency.
The building, the five-storey al-Walid, also contained residential apartments and commercial stores, Anadolu said.
