Development of concept of extending service life of Armenian nuclear power plant until 2026 will be completed by end of this year

YEREVAN, March 18. /ARKA/. The level of water in Armenia’s largest Lake Sevan is now 15 centimeters higher than in March 2020, Environment Minister Romanos Petrosyan said today.

He said one of the factors behind this rise is a much large volume of water coming into the lake through the Arpa-Sevan tunnel, as well as the regulated use of water resources during the irrigation season.

According to him, in 2020, more than 200 million cubic meters of water was directed to the lake through the Arpa-Sevan tunnel, while the releases of water from the lake for irrigation amounted to 140 million cubic meters.

The minister also noted that all structures built on the lake’s shores which are below the mark of 1901.5 m, and many of which were built without permits are being dismantled.

‘About 3 dozen structures have been dismantled since February and none of them had construction permits, which is illegal,”Petrosyan said.

Lake Sevan is the main source of drinking water in the region, one of the largest alpine lakes in Europe and Asia, located in the heart of the Armenian Highlands, at an altitude of 1914 meters. By 2030, the lake level is planned to be raised to 1903.5 m. –0–
