YEREVAN, May 26. /ARKA/. Armenia’s Acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan told MPs today that his government has been considering an appeal to the UN Security Council from the very first days of the incursion of Azerbaijani troops into Armenia’s sovereign territory on May 12-14.
He added, however, that before taking the border crisis with Azerbaijan to the UN Security Council it is necessary to make some preparatory work.
“We have never ruled out and do not rule out that we may ask the UN Security Council to address this issue if it turns out that the toolkits of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) or the Russian-Armenian Treaty on Joint Group of Forces are not sufficient to solve the border crisis,” Pashinyan said.
Earlier, the head of the Bright Armenia party’s faction, Edmon Marukyan, called on the Armenian government to immediately apply to the UN Security Council.
Armenia has formally asked Russia and the Collective Security Treaty Organization for military support, but unlike the United States, France and several other countries, Russia has not called on Azerbaijan to withdraw from Armenian territory suggesting instead that both countries start border delimitation and demarcation processes saying it could act as a mediator. -0-
