The Turkish security forces detained 19 people in early morning raids in Istanbul, news website Bianet reported on Thursday.
Among the detainees were journalists, politicians and representatives of non-governmental organisations, Bianet said. Cihan Yavuz, the deputy mayor of Istanbul’s central Şişli district, was one of the people apprehended, it said.
Police raided 28 addresses in various districts of the city after securing warrants for 25 people, the news website reported.
The operation was conducted as a result of an investigation by the İstanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, it said.
