Orthodox Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew is set to meet with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in Ankara on Tuesday, the Orthodox Times reported.
The meeting will take place during an event with the Turkish president and the country’s religious leaders to discuss and announce new decisions on issues related to their individual jurisdictions, the site said.
Istanbul-based Bartholomew is regarded internationally as the representative and spiritual 300 million Eastern Orthodox Christians.
The Turkish government does not recognise the “Ecumenical” status of the Patriarch and treats the patriarchate as a religious institution serving only Turkey’s Greek Orthodox community.
