Baku/10.05.21/Turan: A group of activists of the opposition Musavat party today tried to hold a protest in front of the Russian Embassy in Azerbaijan in protest against the military parade, which Russian peacekeepers intend to hold on May 9 in Khankendi on the occasion of Victory Day.
The police stopped the action, there are detainees.
The activists chanted the slogans “peacemakers!”, “No, Russian occupation!”, “Ivan go home!” “Karabakh-Azerbaijan!”
“The Russian Defense Ministry intends to hold a military parade on May 9 to mark Victory Day. We, the participants in the picket organized by the Musavat Party, demand that the preparation of the parade be suspended and the decision to hold this event be canceled,” the resolution of the picket reads.
The Musavat Party believes that the decision of the Russian Defense Ministry to hold a military parade in Khankendi should be regarded as a “gross violation of international law”, as well as an attempt to “encroach on the sovereignty of independent Azerbaijan.”
“We demand that official Baku demonstrate an open and principled position on this issue and take effective measures to prevent the parade,” the document says.
“We also demand from the world community to give a political and legal assessment of the actions of the Russian military contingent in Azerbaijan. “Russia, hands off Karabakh! Karabakh is Azerbaijan! ”, The statement reads.
According to the leader of Musavat, Arif Hajili, the police detained more than a dozen activists, including Gulaga Aslanli, Arzulla Bulud, Farida Aleskerli, Elman Guliyev, Zakir Mammadzade, Farid Huseynli, Rovshan Huseynov, Javad Gafarov and others.
