Turning a blind eye to the escalating radical violent crimes in a number of cities that seriously trample the rule of law, Pompeo retweeted Saturday a previous message sent to the Iranian people in July 2018, reminding them, “The United States is with you”.
Pompeo had sent a message last year saying, “The United States hears you. The United States supports you. The United States is with you”. In his November 16 tweet, Pompeo said, “As I said to the people of Iran almost a year and a half ago: The United States is with you.”
After the Iranian government announced it is raising fuel prices early on November 15, some people across Iran began pouring into streets in spontaneous protests, which continued the following day. Till Friday evening, protests were not confronted by the police. But arson and sabotage attacks suddenly started, including armed attacks on police stations and military bases, forcing the law enforcement police to take action to stop the saboteurs who have raided tens of banks and pump stations among others.
Pompeo’s remarks, however, completely confound right with wrong, lack awareness of rule of law, and go against the conscience of mankind. They further showcase the Trump administration’s plot of pressuring and instigating chaos in Iran through the recent fuel price hike.
Rioters in a number of cities have been launching attacks by beating, smashing, looting and setting fires. They attack police officers and civilians, besiege and intercept the central authorities’ agencies in small towns, deface the national emblem and insult the national flag, and even commit arson.
A series of such acts are far beyond the scope of peaceful protest and “free speech” claimed by Pompeo. No country under the rule of law will tolerate such acts. The Iranian government brings the violent criminals to justice and punishes them in accordance with the law, which exactly demonstrates that the government safeguards the rule of law in Iran as well as its people’s human rights and freedom.
Silent on the violent crimes, the US blamed Iran’s government’s law enforcement actions which exercise restraint, saying he hoped that the fuel hike issue could be resolved in a way that is nonviolent. Why were there no politicians from Western countries calling for “nonviolent” solutions when the US and European countries constantly were involved in violent conflicts with protesters including the “Occupy Wall Street” movement in the US, the “Yellow Vest” movement in France and the riots in London? When it comes to Iran, politicians such as Pompeo have changed their attitudes immediately. This is a double standard, clumsy, inferior.
Some Western media have also changed their tune by reporting the violent crimes in Iran using words like “ugly.” In fact, trained rioters are demonizing the police and the government with rumors and instigating hatred towards the police through US and UK-based opposition media and some social media platforms. Pompeo’s remarks exactly prove what he has done as the director of the Central Intelligence Agency, as he said “we lie, we cheat, we steal.”
These remarks also further prove that the anti-Iran forces in the US cannot escape responsibility for the escalating violence in Iran. It is a fact that the CIA and other anti-Iran currents keep financing violent protestors in Iran. US politicians, including Pompeo, have met with anti-Iran currents in Europe and the US several times, and some anti-Iran members of the US Congress keep pushing for further sanctions related to Iran. The motives of some individuals in the US who are trying to conduct a “color revolution” in Iran and bring peril into the Iranian mainland to instigate chaos are abundantly clear.
However, these buffoons will get nowhere. Any act as a cat’s paw will eventually end up in failure, and be cast aside by the Iranian people as well as people with a conscience around the world, who have distanced themselves from the riots and their violent crimes.
