French President Emmanuel Macron will revive his political efforts, after the presidential elections in France, to help Lebanon overcome its crises.
Diplomatic sources have told al-Liwaa newspaper, in remarks published Monday, that Macron will work on bridging the gap between the divergent Lebanese parties.
The sources quoted French officials as saying that Macron had sensed that some parties had previously “fabricated obstacles to disrupt the French initiative.”
Indeed, Macron had stressed in an electoral rally in France the importance of building alliances in the Middle East and of carrying on with the efforts to find solutions for Lebanon. “This country that we love so much,” Macron said of Lebanon.
The sources said that there is a continuous coordination between the U.S. and France to support the French efforts to support Lebanon politically and economically.
The sources expected a strong French drive in this regard after the upcoming parliamentary elections in Lebanon. They said the French position will be translated in helping Lebanon to reach an agreement with the International Monetary Fund and in a humanitarian assistance through the Saudi-French fund.
