Mehmet Hilmi Güler, a politician close to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, has become the chairman of Superonline, the internet service provider of mobile phone company Turkcell, according to an opposition MP.
Güler, a former energy minister who is now mayor for the city of Ordu, used to be a board member of Turkcell, which is controlled by the Turkey Wealth Fund. Güler left the position in March last year, Deniz Yavuzyılmaz, who represents the main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP), said on Twitter on Wednesday.
Company records published by e-sirket.com show that a person named Mehmet Hilmi Güler works as chairman of Superonline. No more information is provided.
Güler worked as energy minister for Erdoğan’s governing party between 2002 and 2009. He won an election for the post of mayor of Ordu, a port city on Turkey’s Black Sea coast, in April 2019.
Erdoğan is chairman of the Turkey Wealth Fund, which controls most of Turkey’s major state-run businesses.
