YEREVAN, February 24. / ARKA / Some 150 participants of the war in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) need prosthetics, Armenian Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Tatevik Stepanyan said at a press conference on Wednesday.
She said a group of specialists has been created, who visit the war participants at their homes to assess not only the functionality of soldiers who lost their limbs in the war, but also the conditions and places of their residence, their professional capabilities, family potential in order to provide comprehensive services in the future.
According to her, 82 people have already been granted 1st category disability, 193 soldiers- 2nd category and 335 -the 3rd category disability. Certificates of incapacity have been prolonged for another 25 war participants.
“The process of prosthetics is quite long. The conclusion is made after an assessment by a multidisciplinary commission. A medical-training prosthesis is provided for a year so that a person can adapt to wearing it,” Stepanyan said.
According to her, there are 4 prosthetics centers in Armenia and another couple are in the process of being created. Based on the certificates provided by the ministry, beneficiaries can apply to one of them to choose a prosthesis.
She said also that none out of 99 war participants examined so far, needs prosthetics abroad. Armenian companies import parts and components and adapt them to the needs of a person, based on the place of residence – a town or a village and depending on the specifics of their job,” Stepanyan said.
