Israel reportedly bombed Syria late Thursday night, hitting targets in Damascus from the direction of Beirut, the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported.
Syrian air defense systems were activated in response to the attacks and in an attempt to intercept the incoming missiles, SANA claimed, while other media sources reported hearing explosions over Damascus.
At the same time, Israeli citizens in Tel Aviv, Ramat Gan and the surrounding area heard blasts over Gush Dan.
The IDF was investigating whether the blasts were caused by a Syrian surface-to-air missile (SAM) that might have been launched at an incoming Israeli missile and then flown into Israel and landed somewhere near Tel Aviv.
On August 20th, Syrian surface-to-air missile systems (SAM) fired against alleged Israeli airstrikes that killed four pro-Iranian fighters in Damascus. Russian military sources claim that 22 Israeli missiles were shot down during the attack.
