https://www.turan.az-Baku/22.01.21/Turan: Head of the press service of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry Leyla Abdullayeva commented on the resolution of the European Parliament adopted on January 20 on the implementation roadmap for 2021. The document notes that the EU’s supports the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan within its internationally recognized borders.
“Despite the efforts of some pro-Armenian circles, the EU’s position on supporting the territorial integrity and inviolability of the internationally recognized borders of Azerbaijan and other Eastern Partnership countries has not changed,” she said.
The document also welcomes the November 10 trilateral statement by the leaders of Azerbaijan, Russia and Armenia, and expresses the hope that this agreement will open up prospects for a future world.
The document condemns the killing of civilians, the destruction of civilian infrastructure, the use of cluster munitions and calls on Armenia and Azerbaijan to do the same.
The document also refers to the return of refugees to their homes, the provision of humanitarian assistance to those in need, and the prosecution of those guilty of war crimes.
“In short, the European Parliament resolution confirms the importance of resolving all issues related to conflicts in the Eastern Partnership countries on the basis of international law, primarily on the basis of the EU’s firm support for the territorial integrity of the Eastern Partnership countries,” she said.
The press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also touched upon some of the “unfounded” points reflected in the resolution.
“Our position on the future status of the region and the security of the Armenian population and the heritage of Nagorno-Karabakh is clear and unambiguous. We would like to draw the attention of the deputies who are unfamiliar with a position that the President of Azerbaijan has sent the status issue to the dustbin of history. As for the security of the Armenian population and heritage, the rights of all citizens of Azerbaijan, regardless of ethnicity and religion, they are guaranteed by the Constitution and protected at the state level.
The resolution contains unfounded allegations about fraternal Turkey and preconceived opinions that do not reflect the truth. We emphasize that Turkey is one of the leading countries in the region, is interested in ensuring peace and security in the region and plays an exceptional role in this regard,” Abdullayeva said.
