Turkey is in talks with Russia, Germany and China about conducting COVID-19 vaccine trials that are being developed in those countries.
Germany and China have applied to conduct Phase 3 clinical trials in Turkey and have presented pre-clinical trial results, Reuters cited Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca as saying on Wednesday.
Ankara is waiting to see see pre-clinical results from Russia before working on its possible trials, Koca added.
He also said that there were 13 vaccines being developed in Turkey, three of which have gone beyond the animal testing phase.
Turkey’s COVID-19 cases have risen in recent weeks. On Wednesday, Turkey recorded 1,303 cases, the highest daily level since the end of June, according to official data released by Koca.
Turkey mostly lifted a partial lockdown on June 1. New cases had hovered at just under 1,000 for three weeks last month.
