Turkish Cargo shipments up 9.6 percent

Turkish Cargo, a subsidiary company of Turkey’s flag carrier Turkish Airlines, transported more freight in the first two months of 2019 compared to a year earlier, the company said on April 9.

The company posted an increase of 9.6 percent in the amount of cargo despite a shrinking global market.

Turkish Cargo said it moved up to the seventh place on the list of World Air Cargo Data for January and February.

“Turkish Cargo will be one of the companies among the world’s top five air cargo brands thanks to our strategy,” said İlker Aycı, the chairman of Turkish Airlines.

According to the information on the company’s website, carried a total of 1.4 million tons cargo in 2018, ranking among the top 10 international air cargo carriers based on the data obtained by WACD (World Air Cargo Data).

On April 5, Turkish Cargo announced that it ranked first at “Cargo Airline of The Year Group B’’ level with the highest score in the air cargo transportation evaluation criteria at the ‘’The 3rd ICN Awards” ceremony held on March 21 by the Incheon Airport, one of the most important airports of the world.

Operating with the fleet of Turkish Airlines, including 336 aircraft (passenger aircraft and freighters), Turkish Cargo provides air cargo service to more than 300 destinations including 86 direct cargo destinations.

Upon opening of the Mega Hub Istanbul Airport, Turkish Cargo will have a facility with a closed area of 165,000 square meters and an annual capacity to sort out 4 million tons of cargo.
