Turkish main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) is the most popular among first-time voters in Turkey, according to an April survey by MetroPoll, a leading Turkish polling firm.
The survey showed that 33 percent of newly eligible voters would support the CHP in a parliamentary election, Özer Sencar, the head of MetroPoll, said in a Twitter post on Monday.
Turkey’s last presidential and parliamentary elections were held simultaneously on June 24, 2018. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan was re-elected with an outright majority while his Justice and Development Party (AKP) secured 42.6 percent of votes, requiring it to establish an alliance with a far-right party to secure a parliamentary majority. The CHP secured 22.6 percent.
The AKP would win the support of 24 percent of new voters, according to the poll. The number of first-time voters would be equivalent to 3.8 percent of the electorate, MetroPoll said.
