Baku/17.07.20/Turan: The appointment of Jeyhun Bayramov as the head of the Foreign Ministry was “unexpected.” It is difficult to say how a person who has never worked in diplomatic sphere will carry out foreign policy.
There have been such cases in Azerbaijan before – Tofig Gasimov and Vilayat Guliyev were not career diplomats either, but they had political experience. However, if such appointments can be justified during the period of formation of statehood and in the absence of human resources, now it looks at least illogical.
If we assume that Mamedyarov poorly fulfilled the orders of the head of state and was not active enough, then apparently they will demand from the new minister to be more decisive in upholding national interests. However, it is difficult to believe that this will bring the settlement of the Karabakh conflict closer.
The head of the Foreign Ministry should at least have his own position, propose his approaches, and not stupidly follow instructions from above, like an ordinary soldier.
So far, the country’s leadership has never criticized the Foreign Ministry for being passive. On the contrary, it was loudly announced from all the stands that our diplomacy was active and we won an ideological victory over Armenia, the whole world recognizes our righteousness and territorial integrity. At the same time, any criticism of foreign policy steps and actions of the Foreign Ministry in the press and from the opposition was regarded by the authorities as an attempt to tarnish the country’s successes.
