http://arka.am/-YEREVAN, March 18. /ARKA/. Armenia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs has announced a tender for printing of passports and ID-cards (digital identity cards) of new generation, Nerses Yeritsyan, the head of Information Systems Agency, told PM Nikol Pashinyan last Friday.
He said 10 commercial banks and 3 telecommunication companies have joined efforts to introduce national identification and certification services in accordance with the best international standards.
The Information System Agency and the Ministry of High Technology Industry have developed key draft laws for institutionalizing information policy, namely the Cybersecurity Law, Public Information Law and State Population Register Law.
Yeritsyan said advanced international digital identity standards are being introduced to create an open e-identity ecosystem in accordance with the European eIDAS 2.0 regulation. As a result, any certified organization can offer services on the territory of Armenia, and the government will perform a control and regulatory function without competing with the private sector.
According to earlier reports, the Armenian government will attract private companies to start the joint process of introducing biometric passports and ID cards.
