https://arka.am-YEREVAN, April 5. /ARKA/. Armenia’s birth rate decreased by 7.4% in January-February 2024 compared to the same period in 2023, according to the National Statistical Committee.
Some 5,477 babies were born during the reporting period, down from 5,914 babies born during the same time span last year. Sixty-eight cases of stillbirth were registered, which is 9.7% more than in the same period of 2023.
In total, there were 4,914 deaths in the country during January-February 2024, an 8% increase over the same period in 2023.
It is also noted that the viability rate – the ratio of births to deaths – was 111.5% compared to 129.9% a year ago.
More than half of the deaths (56.7%) were caused by diseases of the circulatory system, 10.4% more than in the same period of 2023. The second largest cause of deaths was cancer (18.4%, a yoy increase of 10.5%).
Other causes of deaths were respiratory diseases (10.2%, up 4.2%), digestive diseases (4.9% , up 4.7%), external causes (3% , down 15.4%) and infectious diseases (0.8%, up 28%). -0-
