Baku/08.10.21/Turan: The Iranian Foreign Minister, who was in Moscow, in an interview with the Rossiya 24 TV channel, made another statement contradicting the real situation in the region.
In particular, he said: “Armenia and Azerbaijan are our good neighbors, and we cannot work with one of them against the other. The Armenian Foreign Minister was in Iran the other day, it would be good if the Azerbaijani Foreign Minister also visited Tehran. And I, too, will visit Yerevan and Baku as soon as possible.”
He further added that Iran is concerned that “some foreign forces are trying to influence the South Caucasus region to change its borders, close border crossings or move them. At the same time, we note the presence of terrorists there, who appeared during the war in Karabakh. At the official talks, representatives of Azerbaijan promised that they would take measures to cleanse the region of terrorists. I should also note the provocative movements of Zionists in our region from the territory of Azerbaijan.”
He immediately stated that Iran wants to resolve these issues on the basis of friendship and good-neighborliness and Iran has a “huge cultural layer” with Azerbaijan.
Asked about why Iran closed the airspace with Nakhchivan, Abdullahiyan gave no answer as saying that it was necessary to move away from harsh statements. “On the basis of wisdom, together with Armenia and Azerbaijan, we can find a solution to all problems.”
It follows from this interview that Tehran believes that it should be the mediator between Armenia and Azerbaijan. In addition, Iran has the right to dictate to other countries whether or not to be in the South Caucasus. He also believes that Baku should report to Tehran and ask for permission before building relations with other countries.
Official Baku has not yet reacted to these extravagant statements of the Minister and, in particular, his claims that Baku promised to clear its territory of “terrorists”. -02B-
