YEREVAN, October 22. /ARKA/. The head of the Hayastan All-Armenian Fund Haykak Arshamyan announced October 21 the start of another nationwide movement “50PLUS” to raise funds for Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh).
“We are starting a new movement that will bring the relations between Armenia and its Diaspora to a new level. The movement will contribute to the consolidation of Armenian resources and a constant flow of funds towards Armenia and Artsakh. We have named this movement “50PLUS,” he said at a press briefing.
He explained that this movement spontaneously began in various Armenian communities in Los Angeles, USA, Belgium, the Netherlands, where ethnic Armenians suggested shifting from one-time donations to the Fund to regular monthly ones.
“If one million people join this movement, then every month we will raise $50 million, if the donation is an equivalent of $50. As a result, we will raise half a billion dollars annually,” he said, adding that $50 donation is not mandatory, but a symbol.
Arshamyan noted that donations continue to arrive and the new initiative is just an attempt to make this process more systematic and organized.
Regarding the funds already raised, he said many people ask whether the announced amount of donations are on the special bank account. Arshamyan noted that this process takes time, since people make donations in various ways, adding that most of the promised funds has already been credited to the account.
He said that full reporting on the funds spent will be provided immediately after the onset of peace. ‘
On September 27, the day when the units of the Azerbaijani armed forces attacked Artsakh along the entire line of contact, a nationwide campaign entitled “We and our borders, everything for Artsakh” was launched. According to the latest data, the amount of donations exceeds $137.5 million.
