YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 11, ARMENPRESS. At all international meetings, the Armenian side raises the issue that part of the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia is occupied by Azerbaijani troops, and the latter must leave the territory of the Republic of Armenia, ARMENPRESS reports Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said in an interview to the Public Television, referring to the quadripartite meeting held in Prague in October.
Nikol Pashinyan and Ilham Aliyev met through the mediation of European Council President Charles Michel and French President Emmanuel Macron. To the journalist’s remark that, despite the reference to the UN Charter in the jointly adopted statement, there was no clear statement of the fact that Azerbaijani troops were on the territory of Armenia and should leave this territory, Pashinyan replied: “If we mutually recognize the border of 1991, then we fix that Azerbaijan has occupied our territories. The whole world knows where this border passes, and thus it is recorded that Azerbaijan has occupied our territories. And if this fact is recognized- it has already been recorded that this is recognized – then they [Azerbaijani troops] must leave these territories, especially since it is also recorded in the plan for further discussions that the delimitation of borders should take place on this basis.”
According to Pashinyan, it was in this context that the EU monitoring mission arrived, because if the existence of the border had not been fixed, no monitoring mission could have arrived. “What were they supposed to monitor if it’s not clear where the border is?” the Prime Minister said.
