https://arka.am-YEREVAN, April 15. /ARKA/. In an interview ahead of his official visit to Armenia on April 15 President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said the importance of the South Caucasus for the Eurasian transportation system has significantly increased.
“Therefore, the Crossroads of Peace project, initiated by Armenia as a new transport idea deserves attention and comprehensive study from the point of view of its connection to the regional logistic interconnectivity,” Tokayev told Armenpress
According to him, the full-fledged functioning of the transportation links is an important step towards the economic integration of the entire South Caucasus and the establishment of lasting peace in the region.
“Pairing regional transportation projects can lead to a significant multiplier effect both regionally, uniting Central Asia and the South Caucasus, and for individual countries. The development of transport communications means, first of all, investments, and this means new technologies, jobs, supplies of equipment and raw materials, production, export-import operations, and banks. Thus, entire spheres of the economy will be involved. This will have a positive impact on the well-being of regions along transit corridors,” said Tokayev.
At the same time Tokayev noted that transportation between Kazakhstan and Armenia is carried out today mainly by road transport, which significantly limits opportunities.
“In this regard, the promotion of new routes in the region will undoubtedly contribute to the build-up of bilateral trade and economic ties,” he stated.
