“I’m on such a ’90s Versace kick,” said Kim Kardashian West at a dinner held in her honor by The Business of Fashion and co-hosted by the Estée Lauder Companies last night. The star was fresh off the Met Gala red carpet, where she wore a gold sequined Versace gown, and already back in another piece from the Italian house with supermodel-inspired influences—a body-skimming lemon-colored dress with a build-in corset. “Naomi Campbell is just a reference I use and love and admire,” Kardashian West added. “It was from the 1992 show [and] they remade it.”
Remaking iconic pieces for the modern era is something familiar for Kardashian West. For her new fragrance, KKW Body, Kardashian West looked to iconic pieces from Schiaparelli and Jean Paul Gaultier for references, before creating her own take with artist Vanessa Beecroft. “I was going for a statue vibe,” said Kardashian West who became a fan of Beecroft’s work after she helped with her 2014 wedding to Kanye West (West also gifted his wife a Beecroft statue for Valentine’s Day). “I am well known for my body and never afraid to show it off,” laughed Kardashian West, “[and] I wanted to do it in my own way and honor [Schiaparelli and Gaultier].”
Another person Kardashian West is living for lately is Cher. After attending her concert last weekend, Kardashian West felt inspired to change up her style. “There is no one who has taken more fashion risks,” said Kardashian West. “Going to the Oscars in a sheer thong! She did it first. She did everything first.” There will be a new approach to wardrobe: “When I go out at night and away from kids pulling at me and ruining my outfits, I want to glitz and glam it up.” Any favorite pieces that the kids have left their mark on? “These Yeezy gray-silver bike shorts. My daughter spit up on them,” she said.
Last but not least, Kardashian West shared that she is on the hunt for hair accessories. “I need to step up my glam and find new hair accessories,” said Kardashian West. Actually, she finished her look with two gilded Versace barrettes, as another nod to Cher. “She changed maybe a dozen times throughout the show,” she said. “There is no one more beautiful on this planet. She’s the ultimate legend.”
