https://arka.am-YEREVAN, April 22. /ARKA/. NATO welcomes the adoption of the Alma-Ata Declaration as the basis for the delimitation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, said the Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia of the NATO Secretary General Javier Colomina.
“NATO welcomes the agreement between Armenia & Azerbaijan on the 1991 Almaty declaration as the basis for border delimitation. Recognition of territorial integrity of both is a key principle. As SG stated in his trip to the regionNATO strongly supports the normalization efforts- Colomina said in a spot on X.
Following the eighth round of talks between Armenian and Azerbaijani border demarcation and delimitation commissions April 19, the parties announced a preliminary agreement that will hand over four abandoned villages controlled by Armenia since 1991 to Azerbaijan. They were part of Azerbaijan’s northwestern Ghazak district during the Soviet era. The move is at the initial stage of the delimitation process.
The agreement was welcomed by the UN SG, the United States and the European Union. “This is an important step towards concluding a durable and dignified peace agreement,” U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday.
The agreement was welcomed also by Norway, Sweden, Lithuania Turkey and some other countries. -0-
