https://arka.am-YEREVAN, March 26. /ARKA/. The Collective Security Treaty Organization (СSTO) has failed to fulfill its security commitments to the Republic of Armenia, especially in 2021-2022. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said in an interview with the Greek publication Kathimerini Daily.
“The practical result is that we have actually frozen our participation in the organization. As of September 2023, we have no permanent representative in the CSTO, and we do not participate in CSTO high-level and summit events. However, we do not block the CSTO decisions, but we do not participate in them either,” Pashinyan said.
At the same time, he noted that Armenia is open to establishing and developing mutually beneficial relations with all partners and has a clear position on the establishment of stable and lasting peace in the region.
Earlier, Pashinyan said in an interview with The Wall Street Journal that Azerbaijan’s aggressive actions and inaction of the CSTO forced Armenia to seek to diversify its relations in the security area.
Asked whether Russia’s military presence in Armenia was an asset or a liability, Nikol Pashinyan said,’ At least at this moment I have already said that, unfortunately, we have not seen the advantages.’
Asked whether that meant that Armenia was planning to ask Russia to withdraw its military bases from Armenia Pashinyan said the Armenian government was not discussing such a question now.
