Top energy officials from Turkey and Qatar will attend an event in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as the three countries seek to improve battered ties.
Qatari Energy Minister Saad Al-Kaabi will attend the Gastech conference on Sept- 21-23, Bloomberg reported on Monday citing the company organising the event. It will be the first such visit to the UAE by a high-level Qatari official since the two governments agreed to repair relations in January, it said.
Turkish Deputy Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar will speak at the event. The visit follows a rare phone call between the leaders of the UAE and Turkey last month.
Relations between the UAE and Turkey have been soured by the latter’s support for the Muslim Brotherhood and its backing for the United Nations-recognised government in Tripoli, Libya. The UAE has supported opposition military forces in the war-torn nation.
