The Shiite Duo ministers, along with al-Marada and the Lebanese Democratic Party’s ministers have voiced reservations over the capital control law that was approved on Wednesday in Cabinet.
A ministerial source told Nidaa al-Watan newspaper, in remarks published Thursday, that the ministers considered that the approved version did not take into consideration some important points related to the depositors’ rights.
“The law did not specify how it will preserve the depositors’ rights, nor did it set a timetable for recovering their money,” the source said. “It also Limited the depositor’s withdrawal amount to $100 per month.”
The source added that the draft law does not match with the financial recovery plan.
Meanwhile, Public Works Minister Ali Hamiyeh told al-Jadeed TV that he supports the capital control law and its amendments. The objections are over the current format, he said.
