Turkey and Israel said on Wednesday that they would reinstate full diplomatic relations and reappoint ambassadors after gradual improvement in relations in recent months, Reuter said.
Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid said that the two countries agreed to restore full diplomatic relations.
“Upgrading relations will contribute to deepening ties between the two peoples, expanding economic, trade, and cultural ties, and strengthening regional stability,” Lapid said after a conversation with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
The countries will reappoint ambassadors and consuls general, the Israeli prime minister added.
Diplomatic ties between Turkey and Israel have been strained for a decade due to Turkish support for Hamas, its criticism of Israel’s treatment of the Palestinians and differences over energy policy in the eastern Mediterranean.
Israeli President Isaac Herzog paid a visit to Turkey in March, kickstarting an improvement in relations. Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu visited Israel in May. In July, Herzog called Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to mark an annual Islamic holiday.
