YEREVAN, October 14. /ARKA/. Over the past 14 days, the number of new cases of coronavirus have more than doubled, Romella Abovyan, head of the epidemiology of nosocomial infections department of the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention, told a press briefing October 14.
She said the reasons for this growth are clear: the martial law, declared by the government after the aggression of Azerbaijan against Nagorno-Karabakh has drawn the public’s attention to the external enemy, making them ignore anti-epidemic rules.
“However, we must not forget that inside the country we have an invisible enemy that directly weakens our rear,” she said.
According to her, it has already been proven all over the world that there are only 3 rules, which if followed, will prevent the spread of the virus: wearing masks, disinfecting one’s hands frequently and observing social distance. However, in the conditions of martial law and large crowds of people, citizens do not comply with safety standards.
“This may prompt the spread of the disease to the armed forces on the border. We are a strong people and we can fight this disease together,” she said.
Abovyan stressed that every citizen is responsible for observing anti-epidemic norms and for the spread of the virus, so everyone must fight and monitor compliance with these rules.
As of the morning of October 13, some 57,566 confirmed cases of coronavirus were recorded in Armenia, the number of new cases per day was 745. Six patients died of COVID-19 the day before, raising the total number of deaths to 1,032 people, 46,318 patients have recovered.
